Raksha Bandhan, or simply called Rakhi is celebrated in many parts of india. Raksha Bandhan means “Bond of Protection”. The festival celebrates the love between brothers and sisters. On Raksha Bandhan, a sister ties a rakhi on her borther’s wrist with a prayer for his prosperity and happiness. This symbolizes the sister’s love. The brother gives her a token gift and a promise to protect her.
The festive ritual is one principally between brothers and sisters, observed both before and after she gets married thereby marking her continued relationship with her natal home and brothers.
